Fall 2025 Updates

An Inspiring Update from Moise

My name is Moise, and I am one of the students whose life has been profoundly impacted by The 509 Foundation.

I’ve had the opportunity to pursue my dream of a college education at Hope College, in Holland, MI, and I want to personally thank you for helping me pursue a life of purpose and impact. It's impossible to express how deep my gratitude is!

Farming has been my passion since I was a child. I believe agriculture is one of the most powerful ways to make a difference by feeding communities, improving the environment, and creating sustainable solutions for the future.

This is why I am majoring in Environmental Studies and minoring in Business. My goal is to use what I learn at Hope to become a leader in agriculture and create meaningful change, especially in places where food and resources are limited. I’ve also committed to spending my summers learning directly from farmers across the U.S.

This past summer, I interned at a farm in Newburg, MD. I managed the farm’s daily cattle rotations by establishing and maintaining effective grazing patterns. I also oversaw the care of our ducks, ensuring their daily relocation, feeding, and overall well-being. This experience brought me one step closer to becoming the kind of farmer who not only works the land but also serves people and the planet.

This fall, I began my sophomore year with an off-campus program called The Oregon Extension. It’s a unique outdoor learning experience focused on personal growth, practical skills like farming, carpentry and spiritual development. During the semester, students disconnect from technology during the week to better connect with nature, each other, and their faith. I’ve grown so much during this time, I truly believe I’ll return to campus a changed person.

Thank you again for believing in my future and supporting The 509 Foundation. I’m making the most of every opportunity and am committed to giving back and helping others, just as you’ve helped me.

A New Chapter: Opportunity in Haiti

With the immense challenges facing Haiti today, from political unrest to the lack of government support and the limited opportunities to support themselves, young adults struggle to find a way forward. So even as we celebrate what God is doing through our students in the U.S. we are also eager to provide support to young adults who will remain in Haiti to pursue a life of impact.

This month, we launched a new initiative to support young adults in Haiti who wish to attend vocational school and learn a trade. Our first recipient, Madaï André, embodies the courage and faith that defines the heart of The 509 Foundation.

“I was born in Gonaïves and lost my father when I was just a year old. Life has not been easy for my mother and me, but God has given me the courage to never give up on earning an education. Thanks to 509, I can now continue my professional training. I promise to work hard, stay committed, and make you proud.”

Looking Ahead

To continue supporting our students through the next academic year, our goal is to raise $73,000.00 by the end of 2025.

Any amount beyond that will allow us to invest in the following academic year, as well as expand opportunities for others like Madaï in Haiti.

If you'd like to learn more about how you can support a specific student in their journey, please reply to this email and we'd love to share various ways to engage with and support your students.

Every gift allows us to continue bringing hope, education, and opportunity to our exceptional students.

Together, we are changing lives.
Together, we are bringing hope to Haiti.

With gratitude and hope,
Jeannie and Mike Cunnion, and Donken Andre
